The nature-versus-nurture debate has occurred for generations: Is a child born with a predetermined personality, or is a child’s personality shaped by the environment in which he or she is raised? In reality, the answer is probably a combination of both. In the end, however, it matters little which of the two is true. Good parenting skills will ultimately play the biggest role in the development of a child. But what skills are needed to raise a child in a safe, stable, and challenging environment, and where does a parent learn these skills?
